business plan:
looking over the zemanta api
http://developer.zemanta.com/wiki
we can use java library with scala loidicus:

scala language homepage:
outside data base (may consider using later)
faviki: http://www.faviki.com/pages/welcome/
sysomos: http://www.sysomos.com/ (thanks Jason)
Zemanta gentlemen I met. Bostjan Spetic VP products, co-founder (very helpful, lots of information and positive feedback), and Andraz Tori CTO, co-founder (didn’t chat with him much, was more interested in how far along we were).
Additional businesses in this field:
Lookery profile similar concept uses public data to create user profiles

Optional Semantic APIs:
Peer39 http://www.peer39.com/
opencalais http://www.opencalais.com/
Advertising Aggregators:
247 real media NY http://www.247realmedia.com/EN-US/
Openad engine: http://www.openx.org/ (corrected)
Resolute Digital: http://resoluted.com/blogs/media/open-ad-servers/
May consider sezwho to find early adopter/influencers and base some advertising on their status updates
http://js-kit.com/comments/sezwho/
Implementation that bypasses where data comes from: Browser extension (that’s what zemanta’s approach has been)
Awesome meeting. Zemantas API is open http://www.zemanta.com/api/
we can code internals in scala for speed (or c++)
php, python, ruby are too slow.
We’re going to be a connecting and database building business- at least that appears to be where we can fill a need. The players between a user and an ad in my view: status or comment (social media), us, semantic algorithm, us, merge behaviorial (our personalized database) with semantic meta data, advertising hub, Us, host.
Revenue split could include us, semantic alg provider, advertising aggregator, host
Glue API is open we can start using it today. The catch, only for web sites they support (this is a killer for our app).
Glue API is open: http://getglue.com/api
Going to meet a couple Zemanta guys at 2pm in Times Square. I’ll find out what they do and if we can setup an informal arrangement
Updated the flow chart: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1127092/IntelligentAdvertisingMediaManager.png
Also Glue API may have a way for us to find meta data within text as well:

Interesting article on processing time with various languages (Eli)
http://blog.dhananjaynene.com/2008/07/performance-comparison-c-java-python-ruby-jython-jruby-groovy/
We may want to use a different language for doing any processing (java/scala/c++)
Heard back from Zemanta, they do indeed have an API and are willing to consider working with us. I should hear back in the next day or so, and forward it along.
Eli was able to get netbeans and our simple status grabber working. We may want (or need) to code our own simple version of the semantic function as not to be always dependent on an outside company .
Can I suggest SCRUM and focus on identifying developers for the prototype. Don’t worry about all the other business stuff yet with positions, marketing strategy etc. It’s all time that should be dedicated to a later stage of developing a business. Think about the simple items of how to make money in product development but don’t worry about the larger business tasks yet. Get something built that works and can produce revenue. Create a vision and build a team around it that is 1st product focused. Demo – Sell – Build should be the mantra and finding the right dance partners for building the company.
