Wow it's terribly slow in Firefox compared to Chrome (guess it's webkit javascript optimizations). I might suggest webkit browsers, and/or Chrome frame on our site then.

Oh yeah the links you shared aren't 3D simulators (no z-axis or camera point).

the rendering does just fine, I see the layout properly, and the iframes load at the proper place (although some apparently need safari or chrome to work fine)
add those with disqus and the meebo bar and you get some heavy js calls there

Haven't really looking into the css yet, from what I basically understand, there's quite a few image sprites (high res one might say for the web, since they're something like at least 800*600 images) and the rest is executed thanks to webkit's functions.
This is simply CSS transition, no javascript (there's only a mint.js file in the source code, seems odd tho, doesn't really have anything to do with the anim itself apparently).

lol, it runs ok now when it is the only tab open in firefox.
The first time I tried, I had a bit more tabs opened (4)

and my rig is not that old lol, it's a precision m2400 with 2,8ghz Intel T9600 with a quadroFX video card and 4Gb of ram
That's why I said it was heavy, even for me.
